Cost of a J1 visa
There are slight variations in costs and salaries between visa sponsors so once you have secured a job contract offer we would advise you look in more detail at the costs involved. As a rough guide you can expect to pay in the region of $400 for the visa application fee plus $160 for the Embassy processing fee. You would also need to pay for a flight and if needed, criminal record check and health check fees.
Some agencies will offer a package deal that includes flights and this may be an attractive option if upfront costs prove to be a barrier to your participation however, there is no such thing as a free flight so you would end up with a heavily deducted salary meaning this is a much less cost effective option in the long run.
